Toonami will also air Dragon Ball Z Kai: The Final Chapters, which focuses on the Buu Saga, will also on January 7 at 12 a.m. ET/9 p.m. PT following the second airing of Super that night. A new Dragon Ball Super website has also launched, which will include exclusive content, video, character information, and more of the latest news about the series. Previous Dragon Ball series Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z, and Dragon Ball GT all aired on Cartoon Network’s Toonami block throughout the late 1990’s and early 2000’s.

Funimation recently revealed the voice cast of the English dub, which includes returning voice actors in the roles of Goku, Vegeta, and more. The company previously had announced it would be handling the English dub in addition to the home release distribution of the series in the U.S. and Canada. Funimation has also since begun making the English subtitled version of Dragon Ball Super available.

Series creator Akira Toriyama is overseeing Dragon Ball Super, which continues Goku’s tale as he strives to maintain peace following his epic battle with Majin Buu. Dragon Ball Super made its debut in the West on several anime streaming websites this year and is currently streaming on Crunchyroll, FunimationNow and Daisuki, with new simulcast episodes debuting every Saturday. Super first aired in Japan in July 2015.

Star Wars Rebels: “Ghosts of Geonosis” Review

Share.

The Saw is family.

Warning: Full spoilers for the episode below.

The two-part “Ghosts of Geonosis” obviously had a big tie-in to Rogue One via the Rebels introduction of Saw Gerrera (with Forest Whitaker voicing him no less), but it also managed to be another installment with cool ties to multiple parts of Star Wars lore. Geonosis of course was introduced in Attack of the Clones and Saw himself in The Clone Wars, allowing this episode to touch upon both of those pieces of history in fun ways.

Though let me get out of the way that Klik-Klak is a very silly name and hearing it over and over didn’t help. Couldn’t Ezra have just gone with Klik? Klik works! And it doesn’t sound so childish.

I was very curious how Saw would be handled here. I absolutely love Rogue One, but Saw is a notably weak link in the film – a character that just doesn’t work or add up in the limited time we spend with him (and yes, it’s hard not to wonder if deleted scenes would have helped flesh him out more). This episode of Rebels did a much better job of bringing life to Saw, albeit a couple years earlier, before he apparently got a lot more deranged (Whitaker notably didn’t use the same speech pattern he did for the older Saw in Rogue One). In the meantime, getting a look at how rough and merciless Saw was compared to the Ghost crew added to the idea of him being more of an extremist than the core Rebel Alliance, even as he still retained enough empathy to eventually relent with, sigh… Klik-Klak.

We want to hear it.

Picking up on the seeds planted in Season 2’s “The Honorable Ones,” “Ghosts of Geonosis” had our heroes getting tanalizingly close to discovering the Empire was creating the Death Star. It was a wonderful mix of amusing and agonizing how they didn’t understand the drawings Klik-Klak (bah) was making and assumed they were something else – from the egg he was protecting to the Imperial logo.

Speaking of that egg, it had previously been established that the Empire had wiped out the Geonosians, but it was mentioned very quickly. So it was good to see this episode give that idea more weight, as our heroes realized just how important that egg was and that it truly represented this species continuing on or becoming extinct.

In the midst of this, Rebels again boasted some gorgeous imagery, especially Rex, Kanan and Ezra’s flashlights dimly shinning through the huge storm. Another notably evocative image were those Destroyer Droids buried in the sand, and the realization of what they really were.

Some other thoughts:

-Sabine used her jetpack again! And what a sequence it was, as she expertly took out those Rocket Troopers (I guess the Jumptroopers have a new/different name?) . No wonder Ezra has jetpack envy.

-In a franchise known for callbacks, it was hard not to chuckle at Sabine yelling that sand gets everywhere.

-I wondered if they might have Saw reference Jyn, but ultimately think it was the right call to have the focus be on Steela here, as far as those he loved and lost – though perhaps down the line, if he appears again, Jyn will come up.

-Hera also got a great moment to shine, as she got the Ghost out of that collapsing cavern at the end. Exploits like that (and the high regard Saw held her in) are a nice way of setting up her future General status.

The Verdict

Timed to air just after Rogue One opened, “Ghosts of Geonosis” managed to both have connective tissue towards the future events of that film and to past events from the prequel era. As for Saw Gerrera, he felt like a more fully realized character here, even though it’s difficult not to wonder what happens to him in the not too distant future to physically and mentally leave him so damaged.

Now if only Klik-Klak wasn’t called Klik-Klak….
