Out This Week: Blair Witch, MX vs. ATV 2017 and Mariah Carey's Glitter

Glitter

Release Date: Tuesday, January 3, 2017

  • See it on Amazon for $6.99 (Blu-ray)

If Mariah Carey’s, ahem, memorable New Year’s Eve performance has reignited your interest in her career, her 2001 turn as a leading lady on the silver screen just so happens to be getting a Blu-ray re-release this week! Less than seven bucks, too, which isn’t too bad a price to pay to see a film that may have been even more of a trainwreck that what millions just witnessed in Times Square two nights ago.

From our 2001 Review (Rated 2.0 out of 10): The most telling thing about the way Glitter was approached by its makers, and is being sold to the public, is on a billboard advertising the movie I saw on Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles as I drove home from the screening. The billboard exhorts us to watch for “the soundtrack and movie” Glitter. The way the billboard reads, it almost seems like the movie is an afterthought, a secondary promotion for the album. Seeing the film, it’s obvious that is indeed the case.

Blair Witch

Release Date: Tuesday, January 3, 2017

  • See it on Amazon for $19.96 (Blu-ray)

From our Review: Blair Witch is a terrific sequel that stays true to the spirit of the original while at the same time developing and expanding upon the legend. The film fills in multiple blanks that those who loved the mystery and ambiguity of the original might not appreciate, but if you want more of what made the first film work, Adam Wingard and Simon Barrett deliver, in deeply distressing and genuinely frightening fashion.
